Unit Plan Review

Teaching kids about early civilizations is what my group decided to plan a unit for.  This was aimed at the grade 4 level and offered many different resources for students to learn from.  What the culminating activity would be for this unit, is for students to design their own civilizations based on the information taught in previous lessons.  What we want students to understand is how the environment affected the development of these early societies.  After learning about a selection of ancient civilizations, students will understand what was important for these societies and incorporate that into their own creation.

Overall I think we did an excellent job in providing fun activities for students to learn about early civilizations.  What I truly liked about this unit plan is how all the lessons work in harmony in providing information in a fluid manner.  It also offers an opportunity for students to go on a field trip and experience the cultures of early societies first hand; something they'll likely remember for a long time.

Another thing I learned from planning this unit was how useful Google Docs was.  Being able to edit information and post it for others to see, in real time, offered a convenience that would be difficult to parallel otherwise.  This is something I will continue to use in the future and hope to become more versed in the other functions Google has to offer!
